Pioneers for Quality Health

As a nonprofit North Carolina health advocacy we  has been a consistent voice promoting preventative healthcare. Our organization was an early advocate for sterilizing toothbrushes and instrumental in CDC listing high-level hydrogen peroxide anti-fungal agent to disinfect heat sensitive dental material.

Our organization also advocate for construction of rehabilitation communities near VA Hospitals for returning veterans being treated for battle fatigue. In keeping with our mission to promote preventative healthcare, Pioneers intends to draw attention to the need for bio-hygienic cleaning for indoor environments through creation and promotion of an online janitorial training program to educate maintenance workers to detect, and eliminate the cause of sick indoor environment and elevate the standard of cleaning that will prevent cross contamination and sustain healthy indoor environments throughout the USA.

As guardians of the indoor environment, custodians must be well-trained, skilled, and professional in order to create a quality environment, prevent accidents, recognize warning signs, trouble-shoot emergencies, and have complete facility operation awareness. Custodial and maintenance professionals have a challenging profession that is becoming increasingly complex. Shifts and changes in community environments expand the scope of responsibilities for the custodial workforce.

Today, custodial and maintenance staff and facility managers play a critical role in preserving healthy indoor environments. They must have access to the necessary information, tools, techniques, and management systems to achieve healthy conditions. The best available cleaning technology, supplies, and professional development should be provided to indoor custodians. With effective cleaning equipment and an organized cleaning program that emphasizes the correct use of equipment as well as the importance of detection, extraction, and preservation of healthy indoor environment; exposure to particles, bio-pollutants, and volatile organic compounds in public buildings can be greatly reduced.

A bio-hygienic online janitorial school program that emphases detection and elimination of biohazards will provide for healthy indoor air quality, but more importantly, it will provide for an environment where all members of US society can benefit.

Our training will adopt and reinforce EPA and OSHA indoor environment standards and guidelines. We support Green bio-safe indoor cleaning agents. And while there is a national effort to create green jobs, our organization see a need and an opportunity to impact present day standard of indoor cleaning for public eateries, movie theaters, malls, and other facilities with large public attendance. This plan reinforces the message with nationwide poster campaign that persuades community unity and the adoption of higher standard of cleaning.

NEED

There is a need to revitalize the cleaning for health movement that began in England in the 1800’s. The movement resulted from a need to eradicate breeding ground for disease in English prisons and boarding houses. Today there is a need to develop standards by which janitorial service can defend against contagious and deadly pathogens in the nations indoor environment. An online training course entitled “Bio- Hygienic Cleaning” will do just that.

In recent years, examination of buildings prove building related illness sources are linked to chemical contaminant and biological contaminants from indoors sources. Although the EPA suggests basic solutions, Pioneers believe the better solution lies in education. The founder of Janitor University, a hands on management training program, is correct in the belief that “cleaning is our first line of defense”.

In regards to fast-food and restaurant workers, the jobs are often low waged positions and the unfortunate consequence are food handlers without healthcare, stable living environments, or good hygiene habits. The presence of these workers in restaurants is so proliferated that there is a risk to the health of people everywhere should these workers get sick or practice poor hygiene. There is a need to help ensure food is handled in a clean and sanitary manner. Pioneers will solicit alliances with public eateries to adopt bio-hygienic sanitation online course.

Getting attention from the “top” is usually easy in a maintenance “crisis.” But effective and valuable preventative maintenance; knowledge of specific environmental hazards; hazard identification; and certification, requires ongoing attention and resources. This entails careful assessment and informed action planning, and the end result must positively impact the indoor environment for the community.

Pioneers are qualified to meet this challenge to forever resolve the question of healthy indoor environments in public with online training for janitors.

Online Training Course Plan:

We believe our online course will insure nationwide adoption of elevated standard of cleaning. Hygienic sanitized cleaning for indoor environments and contracts for preventative hygienic sanitizing will implement a higher standard, increase hygiene awareness, and prevent the transfer of harmful pathogens.

The online course will teach the following:

  • The custodian’s professional development
  • The wholesome indoor environment Sunlight and Air/clean & dry
  • EPA requirements/ OSHA requirement
  • Recognizing Bio-Infestation problems
  • Bio-safe cleaning; particles; bio-pollutants
    • Restrooms, dinning areas
    • Cooking and food storage
    • Ice machines
    • Trash collecting areas
  • Infestation Detection
    • Observation
    • Laser light (bluelight) detection
  • Fighting bacteria and viruses
    • Antifungal agents
    • Antibacterial agents
    • Heat cleaning methods
Bio-hygienic Cleaning Demonstrations:

To demonstrate bio-hygienic cleaning, local janitorial services trained in bio-hygienic cleaning will be selected and engaged to demonstrate cleaning techniques in their own locales across the country. Their service will contract to sanitize bathrooms, icemakers, cooking areas, floors, walls and refrigerated display areas using the bio-hygienic cleaning process targeting fungi, bacteria, viruses, and unsightly buildup.

Once businesses experience the efficacy of our cleaning method, participants will adopt bio-hygienic cleaning within its establishment forever elevating their standard of cleaning. In addition, good hygiene posters will be made available to reinforce bio-hygienic cleaning.

Evaluation

Evaluation will be formative, measuring the degree of progress intermittently by board of directors; and summative, measuring the degree to which objectives are achieved.

TRAINING MANUAL EXAMPLE
Mold Detection:

There’s mold growing on ceiling tiles in a restaurant. It looks nasty and has a musty odor. You locate the problem — it’s a leaky pipe. The establishment repairs the leak and replace the tiles. But more important, you remove a potential health threat. As mold grows, it releases thousands of microscopic spores into the air. When inhaled, these spores can cause some people to suffer allergic reactions or others to become sensitized to the spores, and, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), they can aggravate asthma and cause other adverse health effects.

Healthy indoor air in a public building is the business of everyone. But custodians are the front line guardians and managers of the indoor environment. This section provides the tools, tips, and resources to help you protect and improve the indoor environment.

“Sunlight and Air/Clean and Dry” is the Key to Preventing Mold. Mold spores can be found almost anywhere and can grow on almost any wet substance containing an organic nutrient. For mold to grow, it needs water, oxygen, a warm temperature and something that contains carbon to feed on, such as dirt, wood, or paper. Left unresolved, leaks and spills, heavy condensation, and localized flooding —especially when followed by prolonged high humidity — can lead to extensive mold growth. Now, imagine yourself as a moisture detective. You can do a great deal to spot and control water damage or intrusion before mold problems occur. (End of example)

OBJECTIVES
Program Objective

To provide continuing education course for custodians through developing and implementing janitorial online training specifically tailored to detection and elimination of biohazard condition; hygienic cleaning and preservation of healthy indoor environments.

Recruitment Objective

50% of eligible participants (janitorial employees) will be identified recruited and selected to participate in the Bio-hygienic Cleaning online training. This is a measurable objective. A simple count will be taken city by city to determine final number of participants to determine recruitment success.

Assessment Objective

100% of business participants will have an indoor environment assessment. Instruments detecting buildup are developed to check and reinforce higher standard of cleaning. This is a measurable objective observing and testing participant indoor environment.

Training Objective

100% of participants will receive training in detecting and removing biohazard and bacteria buildup. Participation certificates can be earned through course completion. Self-motivation is key to achieving training objective. This is a measurable objective using final numbers of successful completion of online training course.

Program Retention Objective

80% of first time participants will successfully complete online training. Although online training require 8th grade reading level, online video demonstrations of cleaning process will allow all participants to understand and adopt our elevated standard of cleaning.

Training will be fully explained and demonstrated and will lay the foundation for adopting standard of Bio-hygienic Cleaning. These are measurable objectives calculating percentages at the end of each training session.

Wellness Objective

Lack of health insurance, limited diet, and unstable home environment plague the poor and lower waged janitorial workers. Bio-hygienic Cleaning will reinforce vitamins, proper diet, and personal good hygiene practices as a part of ridding indoor environments of unhealthy pathogens. A comedic video series depiction of proper and improper hygiene for food handlers and custodians is planned topic of online training.

Tracking Objective

Tracking success of implementation of bio-hygienic cleaning will include surveys of businesses whose employees have taken the online training course.

Tracking janitors who have taken our course may present difficulties, however, we will keep database of companies and participants that will help determine if (1) the course increased employability; and (2) whether bio-hygienic cleaning has become a part of their cleaning methods.

Evaluating the success of our effort will include tracking complaints of food poisoning or illnesses attracted in public areas. The CDC has concluded, that more likely than not, bacteria transfer can be traced to poor hygiene of unwitting patrons and workers. Pathogens are transferred from counter tops, tables, handles, light switches, cash registers, and from shoes to floors. Transfer likelihood is increased with build up of fungus and bacteria.

Online Bio-Hygienic Cleaning Course Technological Considerations
